The Sub-mission under NLM on Feed and Fodder Development aims to increase the availability of certified fodder seeds of high-yielding varieties of fodder crops for dairy farmers.
Under this sub-mission, a seed production incentive of Rs. 250, Rs. 150, and Rs. 100 per kg has been provisioned for breeder, foundation, and certified seeds, respectively.
NDDB as Implementing Agency assists 18 dairy cooperatives in quality fodder seed production under the scheme. The certified seeds thus produced are distributed to farmers.
Fodder seed production through dairy cooperatives has increased significantly, from 12,000 quintals (2021-22) to 85,000 quintals (2023-24). The seed production is likely to surpass 1 lakh quintals in 2024-25.
NDDB’s efforts, through the NLM scheme, have significantly improved the availability of quality fodder seeds at affordable prices for dairy farmers across many states.
